Louisiana Sports: LSU Tigers, NFL Draft, Patrick Peterson, Brees, Jabari Greer
Written by

LSU has its fewest players in the Senior bowl since the 1990s, but the Tigers will have five players drafted. Cornerback Patrick Peterson may be the second player taken. Others picked will be wide receiver Terrance Toliver, defensive tackle Drake Nevis linebacker Kelvin Sheppard, tailback Steven Ridley and possibly kicker Josh Jasper could be picked in the seventh round.

Nevis was picked to play in the game, but had to pull out because of a minor foot injury. Former Saints secondary coach Dennis Allen, now the Broncos defensive coordinator, who is Mobile this week: "I might get Patrick Peterson, Wow," Peterson, who put his name into the draft a year early as a junior, is projected to be a top five pick in the first round. Denver picks second in the first round, and some draft experts have the Broncos taking Peterson...

Bills coach Chad Gailey is coaching in the Senior Bowl and said LSU coach Les Miles never brought up fakes to him when Miles was Dallas' tight end coach for Gailey in 1998-99. “If he had any ideas, he kept them to himself," said Gailey. Gailey said he and Miles text each other regularly...Mel Kiper Jr., the NFL draft guru, said Peterson would go very high in the draft.  Sheppard would go in the third- or fourth-round, and projects Jasper as a seventh-round selection. "It would be great to get drafted," said Jasper. "I'm not worried about i. I'm just enjoying this week. I've never seen so many talented football players on the field at the same time. Kickoff the the 59th annual Senior Bowl will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Ladd-Peebles Stadium on the NFL Network...

Saints cornerback Jabari Greer played through the last half of last season with a shoulder injury and he could barely lift his arm above his head. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams said that's why Greer struggled during the second half of the season...Drew Brees ranks No. 7 among American athletes in Businessweek.com's annual poll. Peyton Manning ranks No. 1 because he bests all other American athletes in "the combination of athletic achievement plus the ability to connect with an audience on a deeper, more personal level”. In other words, Manning has the best combination of on-field performance and marketing power. On last year's list, Manning was behind Tiger Woods and LeBron James. Giants quarterback Eli Manning was No. 17...

catRarely, have I seen few issues that have generated as much raw heat, tension, and passion than the Confederate monuments controversy.

Just as existed during the real civil war, where brothers battled brothers, social media is the battleground, particularly Facebook, pitting friend against friend.

On one side of the tense divide, there are those who are protecting the New Orleans civil war era monuments.  Burnt in effigy, forever, is the symbol of Mayor Mitch Landrieu for up-ending what the monument protectors consider to be the loving civil society of New Orleans.

Lately, events have turned somewhat militaristic.

Some protectors of the Confederate monuments have been staying vigilant, in person and online, even surveilling during the wee hours of the morning, waiting for the next Mayor Landrieu attack. On Sunday morning, with protections of snipers, masked workers and a dumbstruck audience, the worst of all of the monuments was cut and carried., the Liberty Monument.
