SUNDAY'S matchup between the Steelers and the Packers will set record ratings for Fox, according to poll in The Hollywood Reporter. The poll showed that 78 per cent of Americans plan to watch the game -- up five per cent from last year's New Orleans Saints-Indianapolis Colts thriller. The men make up the bulk of the ratings increase, with 89 per cent of males polled saying they would watch the game. Sixty-eight percent of the women will watch the game. The poll shows that the Super Bowl is the second most important day with the exception of Christmas in in an American male's life. The poll shows that men get excited for the Super Bowl more than their anniversary, birthday or Thanksgiving. The poll also shows that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is the most disliked player going into Sunday's game and the fourth most disliked player in the league behind Brett Favre, Michael Vick and Tom Brady...Peyton Manning has replaced Tiger Woods as America's most powerful athlete...
SOME hither, others yon: Urban Meyer didn't recruit Patrick Peterson to Florida because the coach thought he was too immature and the Gators would have their pick of defensive backs, so they stayed away. The LSU All-America is from South Florida. Peterson also changed his name, and that caused some people to question his character. Well, Meyer was wrong about Peterson. His three seasons at LSU were spectacular with punt and kickoff returns, interceptions and hard-headed play. He never quit on the back end of the defense and helped other defensive backs with coverage. Carolina needs a defensive tackle, but every team can use a cornerback like Peterson. Carolina has the first pick in the draft and is going to have to make a tough decision. If they are building for the future, they won't trade this pick.and select Peterson...

Former Saints linebacker Scott Fujita, now with the Browns, picks Green Bay to win the Super Bowl because " the Packers' quarterback Aaron Rodgers went to Cal Berkley, and Berkley is the center of the universe." Fujita, as you already knew, went to Cal. A Super Bowl win on Sunday for Rodgers would give him the same number of wins his predecessor, Brett Favre, had,,,Sean Payton will be behind the ESPN microphone on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Super Bowl Sports-Center Special. A pocketful of wry from reader Steve of Pascagoula:"A man had 50-yard line tickets for the Super Bowl. As he sits down, a man comes down and asks if anyone is sitting in the seat next to him.
"'No,' he says. 'The seat is empty'
"'This is incredible,' said the man. 'Who in their right mind would have a seat like this for the Super Bowl, the biggest sports event in the world, and not use it?'
"He says, 'Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away This is the first Super Bowl we haven't been to together since we got married in 1967.'
"' I'm sorry to hear that,' said the man. 'That's terrible. But couldn't you find someone else -- a friend, relative or even a neighbor to take the seat?'
"The man shakes his head. "No, they're all at the funeral."
