Ron Faucheux grades Biden, Ryan Vice President debate
Written by

r faucheuxWho won tonight’s Vice President debate?  Ron Faucheux, President of President, Clarus Research Group and former Louisiana State Representative, issued his opinion on the Louisiana Politics Facebook page, which he posted as RON'S RATINGS: VP DEBATE

RYAN:

Meeting strategic goals A-

Maintaining the offensive B

Effective message delivery B

Physical presence/demeanor A-

Clarity of arguments B

Exceeding expectations A

Overall B+/B

BIDEN:

Meeting strategic goals A-

Maintaining the offensive B+

Effective message delivery B+

Physical presence/demeanor C+

Clarity of arguments B-

Exceeding expectations B-

Overall B

Democrats and Republicans will generally be pleased with their candidates, although neither hit home runs. Biden made a mistake by laughing off Ryan. Many people thought he was disrespectful and that reduced his likability. While Biden handled the substance of many issues very well, his language was often a little too inside baseball and not always particularly clear. Ryan generally held his own, although he struggled connecting the policy dots. Ryan fell short in making the big argument against Obama's re-election, which was a missed opportunity. Biden seemed like the old pro--maybe a little too much so. Ryan seemed like the eager, well-prepped star student--maybe a little too much so. Bottom line: The VP debate will likely have little effect on the election's ultimate outcome and will be forgotten as soon as the next presidential debate starts. For now, that may be somewhat to Romney's favor, since nothing happened in the debate to disrupt the momentum he gained from his strong debate performance last week.

catRarely, have I seen few issues that have generated as much raw heat, tension, and passion than the Confederate monuments controversy.

Just as existed during the real civil war, where brothers battled brothers, social media is the battleground, particularly Facebook, pitting friend against friend.

On one side of the tense divide, there are those who are protecting the New Orleans civil war era monuments.  Burnt in effigy, forever, is the symbol of Mayor Mitch Landrieu for up-ending what the monument protectors consider to be the loving civil society of New Orleans.

Lately, events have turned somewhat militaristic.

Some protectors of the Confederate monuments have been staying vigilant, in person and online, even surveilling during the wee hours of the morning, waiting for the next Mayor Landrieu attack. On Sunday morning, with protections of snipers, masked workers and a dumbstruck audience, the worst of all of the monuments was cut and carried., the Liberty Monument.
