New Orleans Saints: Heath Evans, Sean Payton, Belichick, Black Eye Peas
Written by  // Monday, 14 February 2011 16:19 //

Saints free agent fullback Heath Evans says he will only consider signing with the Saints or the Patriots this offseason. Saying Sean Payton and Bill Belichick are the only two coaches he'd run through "a brick wall for", Evans is not interested in extending his career just for the sake of it at the age of 33. With the Saints likely to rebuild its running game from the ground up this winter, he's unlikely to return to the Saints as their lead blocker...The Saints have trimmed 12 players off their injured reserve list, but that doesn't mean some extended recovery times doesn't lie ahead for some...

Taken off IR were running back Ladell Betts (neck), wide receiver Courtney Roby (concussion), safety Chris Reis  (shoulder), running back Lynell Hamilton (knee), linebacker Stanley Arnoux (achilles), running back P. J. Hill (leg), linebacker Jason Kyle (shoulder), running back  Chris Ivory (foot), linebacker Johnathan Casillas (foot), fullback Marcus Maiteli (ankle), cornerback

SOME hither, others yon: Drew Brees on buying a home in Dallas:
"It's a non-issue. I think everybody wants to immediately jump to conclusions and all of them are so untrue. The first of which is his family and him are having problems. No, that's not the case at all. The other one is he's taking a job with the Dallas Cowboys. No, not true either, People want to immediately jump to conclusions as to why he bought the home in Dallas, but most players and coaches in the league have a home base, a place where they're either from or where they spent a lot of time before so they have a solid foundation. There's not a guy who's more committed to his team and the city of New Orleans than Sean Payton. I think he's proven that."..

Giants safety Chad Jones is making progress, but still has a long way to go. The former LSU football/baseball player suffered  serious leg injuries in a car crash, ensuring he'd miss all of 2010 and raising doubts about whether he could ever play in the  NFL  Eight months after that crash, Jones can jog on a treadmill and do agility drills. Considering how serious his injuries were, that's significant progress. But Jones still has a very long way to go before he could play safety in the the NFL.  Before LSU fans get all excited the four- and five-star recruits signed on National Signing Day, remember this: The two Super Bowl quarterbacks -- Ben Roethlisberger and Aaron Rodgers -- had only one scholarship offer between them. Roethlisberger accepted an an offer from Miami of Ohio while Rodgers went to a junior college. Moral of the story: The recruiting process is like a prom date: Doesn't matter what happens at the beginning of the evening; what matters is at the end of the night...

If the NCAA really wants to crack down on athletes who get into legal trouble, here's a solution: Any college athlete who is arrested will have to sit through 10 straight hours of the Black Eyed Peas Super Bowl Halftime Show...True story: Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez reportedly went on a date with a girl who is still in high school. The Jets have gone from Broadway Joe to Mall Food Court Mark...Todd McShay of ESPN Insiders and Scouts Inc. believes the Saints will draft Georgia outside linebacker Justin Houston with the 24th pick of Round 1...Cameron Heyward, the Ohio State defensive end, could slip into the first round. His late father Ironhead Heyward played for the Saints...
