Below is the addtional information provided in a press release by the Louisiana Board of Regents

As the longest serving member of the Board of Regents, Roland Toups brought to the Regents an appreciation of how significant higher education is to the state and a passion for driving needed change,” said Board of Regents Chairman Bob Levy.”  “Mr. Toups is not only a well-respected businessman; he is a powerful force in this state whose leadership and guidance on this board will be greatly missed. We will work with whoever is appointed to quickly educate them on the vital issues facing postsecondary education in Louisiana so that they can immediately begin contributing to our important efforts.”

Governor Bobby Jindal said, "We appreciate Roland's 14 years of service to the Board of Regents and the people of Louisiana. Roland has a tremendous record of both civic and business achievements, but most importantly, he has been a tireless leader in reforming our higher education system so students have a quality learning environment and are prepared to compete for rewarding jobs."

Roland Toups was first appointed to the Board of Regents by Governor Mike Foster in March, 1997.  He was reappointed by Governor Foster in February, 2003 and by Governor Bobby Jindal in January, 2009.  He served as Chairman of the Board of Regents for a portion of 2003 as well as in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
