New Orleans Saints Brees Says NFL Offer A Front

Ed StatonSaints quarterback Drew Brees said the NFL owners’ final offer on Friday "was all a front."

In a conference call with Brees, Kevin Mawae, president of the NFL Players Association, now the depleted union, accused the league of spreading "complete falsehoods and complete lies."


Brees, a member of the players' executive committee, complained that the players were not given enough time to assess and ask questions about the proposal owners made on Friday morning.

SI.com has the Saints selecting Georgia outside linebacker/defensive end Juston Houston in the draft. Writes the website: "The Saints need more pass rush out of their front seven and Houston put himself  into first-round with a strong effort in the Senior Bowl. Either at outside linebacker or right defensive end, his athleticism should upgrade the Saints' ability to chase the ball carrier." That is a weakness the Saints have had for several years now...

John Bonamego, a 24-year veteran, is back in the league again after getting fired by Miami. He's the Saints' new assistant special teams coach.  He was the team's special team's coordinator in 2006 and 2007.

The Saints also promoted Tony Oden to secondary from assistant secondary coach and moved Mike Mallory from assistant special teams coach to assistant secondary coach.
