New Orleans Saints: NFL Draft Compensatory Picks, Chris Ivory, Jimmy Graham
Written by

Ed StatonCHRIS Ivory came in and helped save the Saints' season when Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush  were banged up.  Put those three in the same backfield and use them in rotation, and the Saints have a pretty good backfield. I'm not saying the Saints need to use a first-round pick on a running back. I'd like to see them add one more quality runner. Ivory has missed lots of playing time while in college and the NFL...

The Saints will receive a compensatory pick even though they 'd didn't suffer a net loss of compensatory free agents last year.

A total of 32 compensatory draft selections in the NFL Draft have awarded to 23 teams.

Under the rules for compensatory draft selections, a team  losing more or better compensatory free agents than it  acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory picks.

This year, the compensatory picks will be positioned with in the third through seventh rounds based on the value of the compensatory free agents lost.

The Saints will pick in the seventh around between the 42-242 spots.

Carolina was awarded three compensatory picks after losing Julius Peppers to free agency before last season.

Since 1994, the first year compensatory draft picks were awarded, 555 have been handed out. Baltimore has gotten the most, 31, and Cleveland the least, 2. The Saints have received 10.

LSU's Rueben Randle, the Tigers' best receiver, would rather let his play determine whether he's ready to be an All-SEC receiver, and not talk about it....Drew Brees is the perfect face for the unionless players. I wonder how this will affect his relationship with Saints owner Tom Benson?...Defensive tackle Al Woods of LSU was the worst pick of of the Mickey Loomis era...ESPN recently rated the tight ends in the NFC South. "We didn't put Carolina's Jeremy Shockey or the Saints' Jimmy Graham on our ballot. But we'd rank Graham as the No. 3 tight end in the division and Shockey No. 4. There's a reason for that. The Saints cut Shockey to make room for Graham. The arrow is clearly pointing up on Graham's career and we're think he has a chance to crack the Power Rankings after this season. Shockey's on the downside of his career and has some durability issues, but the Panthers went after him hard and are serious about getting the tight end involved in the passing game,,,
