Louisiana Speaker Tucker Talks Redistricting, Budget, SUNO-UNO Merger
  // Thursday, 21 April 2011 14:06 //

The spotlight is on soft-spoken and popular Louisiana House Speaker Jim Tucker to help the state get through what might be the most difficult legislative sessions in decades.  The session begins next week.

On the legislator’s plate are matters such as going through another very tough legislative session right after a bitter one on redistricting, handling a very deep budget of 1.6 billion dollars shortfall and dealing with very emotional and racially-sensitive questions that abound over the merging of UNO and SUNO in New Orleans.

Tucker discussed these issues with Bayoubuzz’s publisher, Stephen Sabludowsky, after he spoke to the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday.

The interview is broken up into two parts.  Here is an overview of the topics discussed on the video Part I:

The upcoming regular session after completing a “red” hot special session dealing with the controversial matters of redistricting

Dealing with 1.6B budget shortfall, Governor Jindal’s budget includes selling prisons and leasing them back to the state

Will the SUNO-Merger pass the legislature?
