Tucker Announces Louisiana Redistricting Plan Sent To DOJ, Court
Written by  // Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:04 //

House Speaker Jim Tucker today announced that the plan for redistricting the state House of Representatives is being submitted to the U.S. Department of Justice and a federal district court in Washington, DC for pre-clearance.  Under the Voting Rights Act, Louisiana's redistricting plan must be precleared by either the U.S. Attorney General or a federal court in Washington, DC before it can go into effect.

Tucker said, "Dual submission to both the Department of Justice and the federal district court is the best way to assure that Act 1 of the 2011 First Extraordinary Session will be approved prior to the September qualifying dates for the fall elections."

Copies of the submission and pleadings are available for inspection through the Office of the Clerk of the House or at http://house.louisiana.gov/H_Redistricting2011/..
