New Orleans Saints Draft: King Of First Pick, Goodell’s Idea
Written by  // Friday, 22 April 2011 13:02 //

SI.com's Peter King has the Saints picking Adrian Clayborn, defensive end, Iowa, in the NFL Draft with their 24th selection. Write King: "A very strong proviso here. Watch out for Alabama running back Mark Ingram. I think Clayborn is the player Sean Payton loves the most at 24. But he looks at this running backs crop including undrafted free agents Chris Ivory and Pierre Thomas and knows he can get a good back later. He also realizes it's now or never to get a defensive end who's got a chance to be a pass rush force. New Orleans likes Anthony Castonzo, too , but he'll be off the board at this point."...

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will announce the first-round picks in next week's draft, but the league has announced that it's doing something different on the second day of the draft: Bringing in retired players to announce the picks. Willie Roaf will announce the Saints' selection. Former Saint and Packer Jim Taylor will announce Green Bay's pick, Marshall Faulk of New Orleans will announce the Rams' selection and Aeneas Williams of New Orleans will announced the Arizona pick. A list of former players taking part: Atlanta, Jessie Tuggle; Baltimore, Peter Boulware; Buffalo, Andre Reed; Carolina, Brad Hoover; Chicago, Richard Dent; Cincinnati, Anthony Munoz, Cleveland, Paul Warfield; Dallas, Charles Haley; Denver, Shannon Sharp.

Also  Detroit, Barry Sanders; Houston, Aaron Glenn; Indianapolis, Jeff Herrod; Jacksonville, Donovan Darius; Kansas City, Willie Lanier;  Miami, Sam Madison; Minnesota, Chris Doleman; New England, Andre Tippett; NY Giants, Joe Morris; NY Jets, Marty Lyons of New Orleans;  Oakland Willie Brown;  Philadelphia, Troy Vincent; Pittsburgh, Franco Harris; San Diego, Natrone Means; San Francisco,Dwight Clark; Seattle, Cortez Kennedy; Tampa Bay, John Lynch; Tennessee, Jevon Kearse; and Washington, Doug Williams. The Panthers, Dolphins and Jets don't have second-round picks,so Hoover, Madison and Lyons will announce their teams' third-round selections...
