MIDSOUTH BANCORP INC. RECEIVES $32 MILLION
Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced that MidSouth Bancorp, Inc. (LaFayette, Louisiana) has received $32.0 million through the Small Business Lending Fund (SBLF). The SBLF, which was established as part of the Small Business Jobs Act that President Obama signed into law, encourages community banks to increase their lending to small businesses, helping those companies expand their operations and create new jobs.
“These funds will provide a powerful incentive for community banks to expand their lending to small businesses, spurring new investment and job creation” said Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Neal S. Wolin. “Breaking down barriers to credit will provide critical support to Main Street entrepreneurs looking to invest in their local communities, grow their businesses, and put more Americans back to work.”
To date, with today’s announcement, four Louisiana community banks have now received a total of $130.2 million in SBLF funding. For a full list of Louisiana community banks that have received SBLF funding to date, please visit link for the most recent SBLF transaction report.

Landrieu and Business Mission To Israel
Chair of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, today invited Louisiana's energy-related businesses to participate in an upcoming Department of Commerce Certified Trade Mission to Israel organized by the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliances.
Sen. Landrieu, who is also a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, plans to take part in the Oct. 23-27 trade mission, which will include business briefings, seminars, meetings and site visits with key companies in the Israeli energy sector.
“It is good news for our state’s economy that the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance is working with the Department of Commerce to organize a trade mission to Israel focused on oil and gas,” Sen. Landrieu said. “There is great potential for future collaboration between the two countries, and I look forward to working with everyone involved to make the trade mission a success.”
International trade between the United States and Israel has strengthened since the signing of the Israel Free Trade Area Agreement in 1985, resulting in the dramatic reduction of trade tariffs on commerce between the two nations. The United States is Israel's largest single-country trading partner, with U.S. exports to Israel of $6.7 billion in 2010.
