BP Report

A joint Coast Guard/BOEMRE investigative panel report was issued this morning which reportedly will show that “BP made critical mistakes on the well and failed to tell its partners and the U.S. government when it realized it.

An investigation team of the U.S. Coast Guard and the agency that regulates offshore drilling held hearings over the course of a year following the April 20, 2010, Deepwater Horizon tragedy. The Coast Guard-Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Regulation and Enforcement investigation has been among the most exhaustive.”—Time

National Wildlife Federation President and CEO Larry Schweiger: “This report confirms what we knew from the first days of the oil disaster when BP was pushing a deliberately and absurdly low estimate of the gusher's size – that BP has put its own legal liability before the Gulf's people and wildlife. It also demonstrates that we need comprehensive restoration legislation to make sure BP's fines and penalties are dedicated to making the Gulf whole.”

Jonathan Vilma

New Orleans Saints defensive star, #51 Jonathan Vilma, will join Dr. Joey Lacoste, President of Louisiana Dental Center and 1980 graduate of the LSUHSC School of Dentistry, to present a check to his alma mater for the second season of the Big Turnover Program on September 19, 2011 at 5:15 p.m. The event takes place at the LSUHSC School of Dentistry, 1100 Florida Avenue, Administration Building, Auditorium A.

This year, Louisiana Dental Center presents a donation of $8,250 to Dr. Henry Gremillion, Dean of the LSUHSC School of Dentistry. The gift represents $6,250 toward a $15,000 pledge for renovating and upgrading the preclinical teaching labs at the dental school, as well as $2,000 to support the LSUHSC Dental Summer Enrichment Program.

The event affords senior LSUHSC dental students the opportunity to meet three-time Pro Bowl selection and team captain, Jonathan Vilma, who, has been responsible for generating a major portion of the gift. The students will also have a chance to win one of ten premium suite tickets for the Monday Night Football game in the Dome to cheer on the Saints defense against the dirty bird Atlanta Falcons.

The LSUHSC School of Dentistry is the only dental school in the State of Louisiana and 75% of the dentists practicing in Louisiana are its graduates. Many of the Louisiana Dental Center dentists are alumni.
