LSU Tigers In Letdown or Blowout Vs. Western Kentucky?
Written by

lsu_tigersNo. 1 LSU (9-0, 6-0 SEC) has put the 9-6 victory over Alabama behind it and will host Western Kentucky (5-4, 5-1 Sun Belt) in Tiger Stadium today at 6 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU.

"We've transitioned from last week's game to this one," said Miles. "Our practices have been very good, very fast- paced. And there's an enjoyment to prepare for a very quality team."

Tigers quarterback Jarrett Lee threw two interceptions against Alabama and was replaced by Jordan Jefferson.

"Hell, we need to execute the offense," said Miles on why he pulled Lee.  "We need to play. That's the motivation that Jarrett responds to. He understands football and we're moving on to the next game."

Miles hasn't announced a starting quarterback yet, but it probably will be Lee. "We'll play both," said the coach.

Western Kentucky will earn about $700,000 for playing the Tigers. It's homecoming for the Tigers and fans have been asked wear purple for the Tigers' first meeting with Western Kentucky

The Hilltoppers' five-game winning streak ends on Saturday against the Tigers.

The Hilltoppers have never played in a bowl game and won only two Sun Belt games in the two previous years. The Hilltoppers need to get out of Death Valley alive (and with their paycheck) and get ready for North Texas and Troy.

The Hilltoppers rank 101st in both scoring offense and total offense and they will be going against the Tigers NFL-caliber defense, which can also score.

Prediction: Tigers cover the 41 1/2. Final: LSU 52-0.

Other NCAA picks: Oregon (upset special) +3 1/2 over Stanford;  Clemson -16 1/2 over Wake Forest; Arkansas -14 over Auburn; Alabama -18 over Mississippi State; Nebraska -3 1/2 over Penn State; Boise State -15 1/2 over TCU. Last week: 8-2.

Former Michigan coach Rich Rodriquez was a guest at the Tulane-Houston game at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Thursday night. Rodriguez, a former offensive coordinator at Tulane under Tommy Bowden, wanted the job when Bowden left for Clemson. He was turned down. He received applause when presented at the game.
The coach is in the area to serve as an analyst at the Southern Miss vs. Central Florida game in Hattiesburg on Saturday night. "I'd like to get back into coaching," said Rodriguez. Tulane would be the biggest challenge of his career...

catRarely, have I seen few issues that have generated as much raw heat, tension, and passion than the Confederate monuments controversy.

Just as existed during the real civil war, where brothers battled brothers, social media is the battleground, particularly Facebook, pitting friend against friend.

On one side of the tense divide, there are those who are protecting the New Orleans civil war era monuments.  Burnt in effigy, forever, is the symbol of Mayor Mitch Landrieu for up-ending what the monument protectors consider to be the loving civil society of New Orleans.

Lately, events have turned somewhat militaristic.

Some protectors of the Confederate monuments have been staying vigilant, in person and online, even surveilling during the wee hours of the morning, waiting for the next Mayor Landrieu attack. On Sunday morning, with protections of snipers, masked workers and a dumbstruck audience, the worst of all of the monuments was cut and carried., the Liberty Monument.
