Louisiana Sports: JaMarcus Russell, LSU, Georgia, Peyton Manning
Written by

jamarrcusJaMarcus Russell could be coming back. According to the Lake Charles American Press, "rumors are swirling columnist Jeff Schultz writes that Georgia's winning streak ends on Saturday. From Sch" that the first pick in the 2007 draft could be joining the Louisiana Swashbucklers of the Professional Football League. Per the report, Swashbucklers media relations director Duane Bergeron said the organization "would not confirm or deny any contact with Russell or his agent." Likewise, team GM and president Chris Meaux said in a statement released to the American Press, "We are not prepared at this time to comment on any player contract negotiations." Though it seems like he's been gone for a long time, Russell last played for the Raiders on Jan. 3, 2010. He has 4,083 passing yards in 25 career starts. If the 26-year-old Russell returns to football in any capacity, it's surely a sign that he'd like to return to the NFL And, if he finally realizes that, he needs at least to try...

The doctor who performed the surgery on Peyton Manning's neck said the fusion has achieved "firm fixation," a positive sign in the Colts quarterback's recovery. Manning underwent a spinal fusion procedure in September to repair a damaged nerve -- his third and most complex -- neck surgery in 19 months. The doctor said Manning could increase his workouts, but can't practice yet...ultz: "Georgia has only one advantage in this game"Aaron Murray. Expectations for the running game are low, unless Crowell suddenly emerges from bubble wrap this week and breaks from the field with Forrest Kump legs. LSU is equal to or better than Georgia everywhere else. The Tigers have won over ranked teams, won on the road, won in Tuscaloosa, won nine games by 46, 26, 28, 30, 31, 35, 33, 49 and 24. Also, they conquered Belarus and  are moving into Poland. Yes, I really believe the Dogs have a chance to win this game. They are playing that well and confident. The problem is too many things need to happen. Something-to-zero in turnovers.  Something big on special teams. Something bionic on the defensive front. It's too much. The 10-game winning steak ends here. LSU wins, but Georgia keeps it close. I'll dance with 13 1/2"...

catRarely, have I seen few issues that have generated as much raw heat, tension, and passion than the Confederate monuments controversy.

Just as existed during the real civil war, where brothers battled brothers, social media is the battleground, particularly Facebook, pitting friend against friend.

On one side of the tense divide, there are those who are protecting the New Orleans civil war era monuments.  Burnt in effigy, forever, is the symbol of Mayor Mitch Landrieu for up-ending what the monument protectors consider to be the loving civil society of New Orleans.

Lately, events have turned somewhat militaristic.

Some protectors of the Confederate monuments have been staying vigilant, in person and online, even surveilling during the wee hours of the morning, waiting for the next Mayor Landrieu attack. On Sunday morning, with protections of snipers, masked workers and a dumbstruck audience, the worst of all of the monuments was cut and carried., the Liberty Monument.
