The neighborhood watch volunter George Zimmerman, faces a second-degree murder charge for shooting Trayvon Martin, an unarmed African American  teenager in Sanford, Fla., a special prosecutor in the case announced late Wednesday afternoon.

In a televised news conference, State Atty. Angela B. Corey said, “I can tell you we did not come to this decision lightly,” Corey told reporters. “We do not prosecute by public pressure.”

Zimmerman, who has maintained he acted in self-defense, was in custody, Corey confirmed, though she gave no details. He had been in hiding since the shooting after his family said he had received death threats.

Zimmerman says he shot Martin in self-defense after following the teenager in a Sanford gated community outside Orlando on Feb. 26. He said he was returning to his truck when Martin attacked him and that he shot the unarmed teen during the fight. He was briefly held by police but was not arrested, in part because of Florida's "stand your ground" self-defense law.”

The controversy has pit whites versus blacks, liberals versus conservatives and has become a hot commodity on the talk show circuits.

So, do you believe the prosecutor is right in charging Zimmerman?  Take the poll and forward to others.

It must be nice when you can get the rules written just for you.

There must come a time when even the most disinterested, blasé, apolitical person living has to look up from whatever else occupies his interest and say, “Wait a damned minute. This just ain’t right and we’re not gonna do it.”
