Tropical Wave Having Impact BP Oil Spill Relief Well, Containment, Cleanup

A tropical wave in the Carribbean, might worsen which could delay work to plug the BP Gulf of Mexico leak up to 10 to 14 days depending upon weather conditions and if the system strengthens.  Allen said the weather could force vessels to move away  from the spill operation.

"Any operations out there would have to be suspended whether it's containment or the relief well," retired U.S. Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen told reporters during a telephone briefing.

However, Allen said should there not be any weather delays, the operation could continue on relief well and BP could start the “static kill” of the leak for this weekend.

The tropical wave, currently over Hispanolia, could become a tropical depression which could impact  the oil containment, cleanup and progress of the relief well,  Admiral Thad Allen  said in the  media update which focused upon the BP Oil Spill Operations.

Allen said wave conditions at the rig site  is currently at four to six feet which would make it difficult for some operations to continue.

According to the National Hurricane Center, the wave has a  60% chance of becoming a depression
