So, Benson buys NBA Hornets, how about Saints Bountygate and Brees?
Written by

Brees-panthersNow that Tom Benson owns the NFL New Orleans Saints and the NBA New Orleans Hornets, other than wondering what might be the new basketball team’s name, the talk has been on two somewhat related issues:

Will Benson be able to focus upon both a flailing NBA team and a battered NFL team who could find numerous defensive players sitting on the bench for games, due to the bountygate drama?

What impact will the buying of the Hornets have upon the stuck-in-cement talks with its player of all time, quarterback Drew Brees?  Some are wondering how in the world can they let Brees hang in the wind (or breeze) for a few million dollars, especially since the same owner is digging deep to buy the Hornets?

We will just have to wait to see how it all plays out in the days and weeks to come.

The Saints' coaching situation of Joe Vitt-to-Aaron Kromer-to Vitt with Drew Brees and Sean Payton absent from opening OTAs on Monday, the team isn't in an ideal situation, but nothing for the team is going to be ideal over the next 10 months.

A source close to The Time-Picayune said Brees is "very upset" he won't attend the Saints' OTA on Monday. Contract talks between Brees and the Saints have been nonexistent the past several weeks, but Brees could attend if he signed his one-year franchise tender which would pay him for $14.4 million for the season, but that is unlikely.

The Saints don't have a draft pick until the third round, but the numbers say they'll look for help in their defensive secondary. somewhere in the draft. Last season, the Saints had the second-worst  touchdown-interception ratio on throws over the middle. The Saints had a plus-13 in that category,

The Saints have helped themselves at signing three free agent linebackers and could look to get better at cornerback and safety.

But for the Saints defense to really get better they have to improve their pass rush.

Saints linebacker David Hawthorne's five-year deal is worth just $19 million in max value with a $3.8 million signing bonus.

SOME hither, others yon: Jacob Hester, former LSU standout, has signed a one-year contract with the Chargers. Hester, who has appeared in 62 games during his four seasons at San Diego,  will back up fullback Le'Ron McClain. Hester, 27, was special teams captain last season...Former Tigers linebacker Bradie James played out his contract at Dallas and signed with Houston..,

Mel Kiper Jr.'s latest top five in his mock draft: 1. Colts -- Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford; 2. Redskins -- Robert Griffin III, QB, TCU: 3. Vikings -- Matt Kalil, OT, USC: 4. Browns -- Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama. 5. Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU...

According to rad .com, Kim Kardashian tried to reconcile with Reggie Bush, but was unsuccessful. "The former Saint felt getting back together with her would be step backwards for him and he moved on a very long time ago," a source said. "Reggie doesn't have any bad feelings towards Kim and he only wants the best for her. He told her she should spend some time on her own for awhile. Several weeks ago after he had that conversation with her she went public with Kanye West, affirming he made the right choice."

It must be nice when you can get the rules written just for you.

There must come a time when even the most disinterested, blasé, apolitical person living has to look up from whatever else occupies his interest and say, “Wait a damned minute. This just ain’t right and we’re not gonna do it.”
