Mobile Alabama Hate Crime Beating Ignored by media, hustlers: Shocked?
Written by

matthew-owens2Since the tragic death of Trayvon Martin on February 26 in Sanford, Florida, the media and scam artists like Reverend Al Sharpton and Reverend Jesse Jackson have been focusing on the problems of racial profiling and hate crimes. The narrative established in the Trayvon Martin case is that there is an epidemic of white on black crime in this country and that law enforcement needs to focus on this urgent problem.

In reality, FBI statistics show that the rate of black on white violence is much higher and usually these incidents receive much less coverage from the media and the supposed champions of racial equality.

For example, last Saturday night in Mobile, Alabama, a white man, Matthew Owens was beaten by a mob of 20 black youths and adults. He is currently in the hospital in critical condition. Owens complained about a Saturday night basketball game in the middle of Delmar Drive in Mobile. The infuriated players ended the game, but returned to the scene with adults brandishing a variety of weapons. A group of 20 people attacked Mr. Owens on his front porch, hitting him with everything from pipes and chairs to paint cans.

A witness, Ashley Parker, the victim’s sister, told a local Mobile television station that “it was the scariest thing I have ever witnessed.” Her brother was left bleeding and unconscious from the severe beating. As the attackers left the scene of the crime, Parker claims that one of them shouted that it was “justice for Trayvon.”

Of course, justice for Trayvon Martin does not involve the beating of an innocent white man who had nothing to do with the events in Sanford, Florida. Justice for Trayvon will occur when his killer, George Zimmerman, receives a fair trial and an impartial jury renders a verdict. It may be a long prison sentence or he may be freed, but the facts will have to be presented in court and hopefully the truth will prevail.

Justice for Trayvon has nothing to do with other incidents in other cities. Trayvon’s memory will not be honored by crimes being committed in his name, especially racial hate crimes.

Hopefully, Mr. Owens will make a full recovery from this beating and the 20 attackers will be brought to justice. At the present time, police have few leads and are asking the Mobile community for their help.

Of course this incident seems to be a racial hate crime, not only because the victim was white and the attackers were all black, but due to the fact that one of the thugs claimed it was done in retribution for Trayvon Martin’s death. Such a statement strongly indicates that race played a major factor in the attack on Owens.

What has been the response to such a racially charged and vicious attack? Not surprisingly, the silence from the politicians and the civil rights groups has been deafening. In an excellent piece in the American Spectator, columnist and Mobile resident Quin Hillyer asks, “Where is mayor Sam Jones on this? Nowhere to be found. Where is Sharpton? Jackson? Holder? Is this not a "hate crime" (if such a thing really exists)? Is this not a civil rights case? Is this not something that cries out for justice against a clearly racially motivated attack? Maybe Mr. Holder thinks of himself as a nation unto himself, which would indeed make him a "nation of cowards" when it comes to matters racial. Otherwise, he certainly would have the guts to step in and order an investigation.”

Other than the report from a Mobile television station and Mr. Hillyer’s column in the American Spectator, the media has been conspicuously silent on this crime. Sharpton and Jackson have not visited with the family of Mr. Owens and have not held a news conference demanding justice for the victim. The (In)-Justice Department has remained silent and has not launched an investigation to see whether the civil rights of Mr. Owens were violated.

Sadly, in America today, the vast majority of hate crimes that receive any attention are those committed by whites against minorities. Racial attacks against whites are sadly ignored by the media, civil rights leaders and the Department of (In)-Justice.

Until there is equal application of the laws by the (In)-Justice Department and equal attention by the media and civil rights groups, true racial equality and harmony cannot be achieved in our country.

Any crime motivated by racial hatred is abhorrent, even when the victim is Matthew Owens, a white man living in Mobile, Alabama

mass2On July 4, 1778, George Washington doubled liquor rations for the soldiers quartered in Princeton, NJ, as a way to celebrate Independence Day. It’s fitting, therefore, that the Fourth of July is America's top-selling beer holiday, according to the Beer Institute. It estimated, in 2013, that sales of beer on the 4th could total $1 billion, doubtlessly higher today. “In moderation,” claims a CA brewery investor, Grover McKean, “beer is tasty and healthy.” Who could disagree?

According to a morning Consult/Politico poll released Wednesday morning, his tweets, including that against MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski, and his personality are not helping him, at all.

indy dayII know the calendar says we are approaching the 4th of July, but, it just doesn’t feel like Independence Day.

Perhaps it should.  It’s hot as heck.  The airlines have been packed. The hot dogs are ready for grilling.  The umps are saying, "play ball". The patriotic activities are scheduled. The fireworks are ready-for-blasting.

Yet, it just doesn’t feel like independence day.

bill rights2To President Thomas Jefferson, July 4th celebrated more than the signing of the Declaration of Independence. He thought it was a link to the future. The message prominent colonists sent to King George III led to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, the initial and most prominent feature of which is the First Amendment that guarantees free speech. It’s part of the country’s fundamental essence that each man and woman can say what they feel about government, or anything else, proving President Donald Trump needs some civics lessons.
