Mrs. Obama, get your hands off Gabby Douglas’s Egg McMuffin, and ours

Written by

leno-obama-olympicsOn Monday’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas confessed that she celebrated her gold medal by enjoying a McDonald’s Egg McMuffin.  For a 16 year-old who has been training for years and working non-stop such a guilty pleasure was certainly deserved.

Unfortunately, seated next to Gabby on the couch was First Lady Michelle Obama, the nation’s unofficial health and wellness czar. She was taken aback by the youngster’s “shocking” meal choice.  She told Douglas that “you’re setting me back” and that in her view Americans should not be encouraged to eat Egg McMuffins.

How dare Michelle Obama rain on this young girl’s parade? As a gold medalist, Douglas should be allowed to eat whatever she wants in celebration. By the way, there is nothing wrong with Egg McMuffins as millions of Americans enjoy them every day.

Michelle Obama needs to stop lecturing Americans on what they eat and start focusing on her own diet. In case anyone did not notice, she doesn’t exactly possess a model like figure.

In a free country, Americans should be allowed to eat what they want and not be constantly lectured about their food choices. In New York City, Mayor Michael Bloomberg obviously has nothing better to do than attempt to limit food and beverage choices for his citizens. He has targeted for elimination the Big Gulp, buttered popcorn, large milkshakes and even baby formula.

It is surprising that these issues have become so important to the Mayor of New York, as one would assume he has a city of more than eight million people to lead.

It is a real battle between Bloomberg and Michelle Obama for the title of America’s Top Nanny. Both are spending way too much time on relatively unimportant issues.

In the case of Michelle Obama, her efforts to control the food consumption of school children are not working. In the Los Angeles Unified School District, her program to change the menu for school lunches has led to a thriving black market for “contraband” food items.  The participation rate for children in the school lunch program is only 13 percent. As this clearly demonstrates, when bureaucrats try to control the behavior of people it usually fails.

Michelle Obama’s crusade for healthy eating is not a productive use of her time and actually leads to more resentment and derision. The last person she should lecture is an Olympic gold medalist, who is doing just fine by the way.

The First Lady needs to get back to doing what she does best, going on expensive vacations. In the meantime, Americans needs to organize another Appreciation Day. The last one at Chick-fil-A worked out quite nicely. This next one should be an Egg McMuffin Appreciation Day and it should be scheduled for Wednesday November 7th.

Just as Gabby Douglas celebrated her gold medal with an Egg McMuffin, Americans should celebrate their political gold medal when they send the First Lady and her husband packing on Election Day, November 6th.

Spending the morning after the election enjoying a nice Egg McMuffin and thinking about Barack and Michelle Obama starting a forced vacation compliments of the American people sounds pretty tasty.
