Jindal to speak Jerry Falwell's Liberty University commencement

Liberty University officials announced today that LouisianJindal-smileTVa Governor Bobby Jindal will speak at the school’s 41st Commencement Saturday, May 10, and author Eric Metaxas will speak at the Baccalaureate service Friday, May 9.

According to the Liberty.edu,

"Now in his second term as governor, Jindal has worked since his 2008 inauguration to improve his state’s economy, health care and employment record, among other things.
“Governor Bobby Jindal has lived the American dream, rising from humble beginnings to become one of the rising stars on the national political scene – and his rise has not yet waned,” Liberty President Jerry Falwell said. “Many believe he could hold the highest office in the land someday. I believe he will be an inspiration to our graduates, not only because of his life’s story, but because he shares many of the conservative and Christian values that Liberty University graduates hold dear.”

catRarely, have I seen few issues that have generated as much raw heat, tension, and passion than the Confederate monuments controversy. 

Just as existed during the real civil war, where brothers battled brothers, social media is the battleground, particularly Facebook, pitting friend against friend.

On one side of the tense divide, there are those who are protecting the New Orleans civil war era monuments.  Burnt in effigy, forever, is the symbol of Mayor Mitch Landrieu for up-ending what the monument protectors consider to be the loving civil society of New Orleans.

Lately, events have turned somewhat militaristic.

Some protectors of the Confederate monuments have been staying vigilant, in person and online, even surveilling during the wee hours of the morning, waiting for the next Mayor Landrieu attack. On Sunday morning, with protections of snipers, masked workers and a dumbstruck audience, the worst of all of the monuments was cut and carried., the Liberty Monument.
