topsOne of the recurring themes over the past few years of Louisiana budget battles, has been--why not consolidate the Universities to save money?

The argument goes--Louisiana has more universities and colleges than larger states, yet, we get less return for our dollars, therefore, should don't we consolidate which would make the system more streamlined?  If we were to do this, we would get greater efficiency at a lower cost.

Spending on Medicaid is likely to make up close to half of Louisiana's total state operating budget in the next fiscal cycle, though most of the money will come from the federal government and not state tax dollars.

As expected, the plan is met with criticisms from business interests and political conservatives and is being praised by some on the other side of the political spectrum.

   Raymond Crews and Robbie Gatti are headed to a runoff in state House District 8 on April 29 to fill  the seat left vacant when Mike Johnson was elected  to Congress.  Both are Republicans.
    Crews came in first with 41% of the vote, followed by Gatti with 37%..  Two other candidates in the race were Duke Lowrie, who finished with 16%, and Patrick Harrington, who had 6%.

Today, Stephen Waguespack of LABI tweeted in response to The Advocate’s Tyler Bridges article that John Bel Edwards would be delaying his release of his tax overhaul package that was scheduled for today.
