Q. I have a cousin in Violet, La. His name is Gail Halbert. St. Bernard Parish was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, and I have not heard from him or his wife since. Hurricane survivor home with Warriors

– It only makes sense that Indiana Tech senior forward Rodney Bartholomew has taken the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference by storm since his arrival two years ago.

“He’s a Hurricane Katrina kid,” Tech coach Al Grushkin said.

Bartholomew was a middle school student when Katrina sent nearly 22 feet of water onto his hometown of Port Sulpher, La., on the Mississippi River near New Orleans.

Most of the town’s single-family homes were destroyed, including Bartholomew’s.

“Me and my family evacuated to Baton Rouge, with my sisters,” Bartholomew said. “We lost everything. So we had to relocate in Terrytown, La.

Last FEMA trailer leaves 6 years after Katrina

NEW ORLEANS | The last of the once-ubiquitous FEMA trailers has been removed from New Orleans more than six years after flood walls and levees broke during Hurricane Katrina and caused the city to fill with floodwaters.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency said the last trailer was removed Sunday. The agency said on Monday that those living in the trailer moved into their rebuilt home last week. At one point, New Orleans had more than 23,000 FEMA -issued trailers and mobile homes.

Rebuilding fund shortfalls, health and personal problems, and other hurdles caused people to rely on trailers for so
