BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A Baton Rouge woman has pleaded not guilty to counts of second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile in the death of her 11-month-old daughter.
The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/19StNyj ) that 28-year-old Ashley Heard pleaded not guilty Friday. An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury indicted Heard in the earlier in the week.
Authorities say Aaliyah Heard died in June of blunt-force head trauma.
The child's father, Larry Leflore, 26, was booked with first-degree murder after the killing, but the grand jury was not asked to consider evidence against him.
District Attorney Hillar Moore III says Leflore's involvement is still being investigated and will be presented to the grand jury soon.
Moore wouldn't say what evidence prompted the grand jury to charge Heard with murder.
