A temporary deal for the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office to provide law enforcement protection in the town of Sorrento expires Tuesday night.
The deal was put in place after the town's police department lost insurance coverage in November. Sheriff Jeff Wiley has offered to take over law enforcement in the area, but so far, no permanent agreement has been signed.
The town council will discuss the issue Tuesday night.
The initial service agreement for APSO to patrol in Sorrento was supposed to expire on December 21, but Wiley granted the town an extension.
All five of the town's police officers have resigned.
Meanwhile, Police Chief Earl Theriot has been reporting to work in plain clothes and continues to look for another insurer.
