Fire marshal's office welcomes new K-9 investigator

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal has a new tool to help keep the public safe.

"Billy" is a 2-year-old Black Labrador Retriever. He and his handler, Deputy Roman Ray, just finished a five-week class in which the dog learned how to detect accelerants used in arsons.

The course was sponsored by State Farm Insurance.

Fire Marshal Butch Browning, who was one of the state's first K-9 handlers, said "Billy" and Ray will be a great asset when investigating fires.
