BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
The new school year begins Monday morning in East Baton Rouge Parish, which is Louisiana’s third largest district.
The parish public school system will feature some new classes this year, which means a few big changes for parents and students.
Chelsea Schilling and her friends made the final touches on Schilling's newly-renovated sixth grade English classroom at Brookstown Middle Magnet School. It's just a small part of some major additions and changes for the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.
"We are very excited," said Keith Bromery, EBR schools director of communications. "Everybody is excited about the start of a new school year."
Along with the opening of Brookstown Magnet, the system is expanding its foreign language immersion program at schools like Polk Elementary. According to Bromery, the curriculum gives parents and students more options.
"It really provides something that attracts kids and keeps them interested and keeps them engaged, along with the regular studies," Bromery explained.
