LAFAYETTE — University of Louisiana at Lafayette students can lend their hands to the community on Oct. 25 as part of the United Way of Acadiana’s “Big Event.”

The Big Event, set for Oct.

25, gives students a chance to help out at nonprofit groups, schools, churches and community organizations that are in need of hands-on help completing projects.

“It’s one big day when UL-Lafayette students can make a big impact on the community as volunteers,” said Keler Williams, director of volunteer mobilization for United Way.

Fifty students participated last year in a cleanup and revitalization project on the grounds of the Lafayette Convention & Visitors Center.

They raked, shoveled and cut the outdoor sections of the center.
