BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Police are investigating a shooting in the parking lot of an apartment complex that left a man dead Tuesday evening.

Family and friends identified the victim as Kedrick Ricard, 28, of Baton Rouge. They are calling the shooting a vicious act of violence.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported the shooting happened at Renaissance Gateway Apartments on North Ardenwood Drive, which is just off Florida Boulevard, around 6:15 p.m.

Police detained a possible suspect for questioning, but the case is still under investigation.

Relatives said the father of six was dropping off baby supplies to the mother of his 8-month-old child when he was shot. They added a man was arguing loudly with a woman and asked Ricard if he had a problem. They also said the man then followed Ricard and shot him from behind several times.

“In the broad open of the daytime for someone to just take a good father away from their children, it's just sad," a family friend said.
