LAFAYETTE — A Lafayette woman has been arrested on suspicion she allowed her ill 3-year-old daughter to starve and dehydrate to the point the child died of hypothermia, officials said.

Sara Leblanc, 27, was booked Tuesday on one count of negligent homicide in the July death of her child, Lafayette Police Department Cpl.

Paul Mouton said.

Police were called on July 24 to Leblanc’s home in the 500 block of Acorn Drive around 7 p.m. and found the child dead. Leblanc told police the girl had been sick for a few days, Mouton said.

Medical personnel at a local hospital later told police the girl “had been deceased for some time,” Mouton said
