LSU Police warn students about increase in bike thefts on campus

LSU Police are warning students to invest in solid bicycle locks as they return to campus. The message comes in response to a large number of thefts in past years.

As LSU students head back to class they are getting to know the campus on foot and by the looks of it, on two wheels too.

Engineering student, Mohammad Rashid, said it is his preferred mode of transportation.

"It's a good idea to ride.

You can go from one place to the other quite easily, and quickly," Rashid said.

Rashid is proud of his brand new set of wheels.

"I got it for $87 and got this lock (cable) for it. It's safe whenever I park it," Rashid said.

It is clear a lot of bicyclists on campus rely on cable locks.

LSU Police Captain Cory Lalonde said it is not exactly their best bet.
