SHREVEPORT — High school football seniors had the experience of practicing in a college-like atmosphere this week, but they got only one quarter of playing time in the Louisiana High School Coaches Association East-West All-Star Game on Saturday in Independence Stadium.
The game’s start was delayed twice because of lightning strikes in the area, and the combination of further lightning strikes, whipping rain and a series of tornado watches led to the game’s cancellation after a scoreless first quarter.
Residents along upper St. Charles Avenue and lower South Carrollton Avenue had long since gotten accustomed to seeing sleek new Regional Transit Authority buses instead of historic streetcars traveling along the two avenues as work continued farther down St. Charles on the streetcar line’s tracks.
In recent weeks, however, came the strange sight of both streetcars and buses operating along the same few miles. The dual system apparently will continue well into 2014.
The confusion all began in early 2011 as the RTA undertook the task of replacing the decades-old wooden cross-ties that support the streetcar tracks.
