Jefferson Parish occupational license revenue restored with new definition of business

  // Thursday, 30 January 2014 12:16 //

The Jefferson Economic Development Commission and parish budget watchers are breathing easier since Parish Council has more clearly defined which businesses are subject to occupational license taxes.

JEDCO, an independent arm of parish government established to attract and retain businesses, receives $1.6 million every year in occupational license tax revenue.

That's about 40 percent of the organization's budget, and it could have been wiped out without the council's action.
