WATERLOO | Black Hawk County Republicans will host a discussion on Common Core educational standards during a town hall meeting on Tuesday night.
Tamara Scott, state director of Concerned Women for America, will lead a discussion on the subject from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Beck’s Sports Brewery, 3295 University Ave., in Waterloo.
The town hall is free and open to the public.
It is meant to educate Iowans about the Common Core education reforms being implemented at schools across the country.
Black Hawk County Republican Chairman Scott Adkins said the local party opted to hold a town hall -- which it does about quarterly -- on this topic because of the importance of education.
"It's kind of something new that's kind of come down the pike and we want to have an open discussion about what is common core," Adkins said.
