In Case You Missed It: Uncommon fighting over Common Core

  // Sunday, 27 July 2014 11:51 //

Quote of the Day:

“A significant portion of the governor's base is only interested in an actual repeal of Common Core and Wisconsin pulling out of the oppressive Smarter Balanced Assessments. The fence riding has got to stop.”

— Sun Prairie resident Jeff Horn, a member of Prairie Patriots, a tea party group

Gov. Scott Walker likely thought he was making a shrewd move by switching against the Common Core education standards, a move that should have played well with the conservative base.

But he may have maneuvered himself into the unenviable “can’t please anybody” spot, as Common Core opponents are criticizing Walker for not going far enough.

And he has definitely not endeared himself to Common Core supporters like Madison Metropolitan School District Superintendent Jennifer Cheatham, who says all the political “noise” about Common Core isn’t helpful to teachers and students who have spent years getting ready for the standards.
