The chamber encourages candidates to run for School Board in its July-August edition of Focus magazine.
“One way to insure that the education in our local public school system meets our expectations is by electing effective school board members. If you are interested in public education, please consider becoming a candidate in your district for the Terrebonne Parish School Board,” a short article reads.
The article notes the qualifying dates are Aug. 20-22 and the election is Nov. 4.
That message doesn’t sit well with School Board President Roger DeHart.
“What I’m saying is that you don’t see them targeting any other race this election except for the School board,” he said.
The chamber, however, said the announcement was meant to engender competition so the best possible candidates occupy School Board seats.
