Keystones, Common Core change Bucks County classrooms

  // Monday, 11 August 2014 01:37 //

When students step into their classrooms throughout Bucks County this month, they will have a drastically different experience than students did just three years ago.

That was when Pennsylvania adopted its version of the national Common Core standards, the Pennsylvania Core Standards.

This coming school year is the first time the curriculum and the high school Keystone tests have to be fully implemented.

Teachers, parents and administrators said the introduction of the new state-level curriculum and examinations have changed the way they approach the classroom and the way students learn.

Backers say the move will result in uniform baseline standards nationwide for all students, with 44 states now following the same guidelines. Critics, though, say the standards rely too much on assessment and don’t benefit the children.
