Students in New York fared slightly better on state-mandated, Common Core-based math exams in 2014, but scores on English language arts tests remained largely static.

The state Education Department on Thursday released the results of standardized tests issued to the state's third-through-eighth graders this year, the second year the exams were based on the tougher education standards known as the Common Core.
