How common will Common Core be in the future for SC schools?

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - With a new school year comes a lot of changes for students, but Common Core is one thing that is staying the same this year.

The Horry County School district referred WMBF News to the state's decision. In fact, the State Department of Education is planning to replace Common Core standards with a new set of teaching standards, next school year.

It was only the end of this school year that Governor Haley signed off on that idea. For this year, because Common Core will be the basis for assessment, it will continue to be the basis for instruction. The goal for the State Board of Education is to come up with new standards for the 2015-2016 school year. These standards will be available for public review in November, brought to the state board in January and get final approval by March.
