New Orleans, La. - Residents in the Central City area are waking up this morning to members of the New Orleans police SWAT team searching the area around the 2800 block of LaSalle St.
A police spokesman says just after midnight, detectives tried to interview someone at a residence in that block. It is unclear how many people were in the house at the time. But police say that the occupants would not cooperate or be interviewed.
Police sent a SWAT team to the area around 3 a.m.
The scene is several blocks from where a baby and her babysitter were shot. The 13-month-old later died at the hospital. The 18-year-old babysitter is being treated for her injuries. Police have not said if the victims were the intended targets. A police spokesman would not say if the SWAT team's search is connected to the shootings.
Several streets in the area are blocked off. Residents trying to get in or out of the area for work or school are being stopped as the search continues.
