Plaquemines Parish officials announced a dusk to dawn curfew for east bank residents during Tropical Storm Karen. The curfew is in effect for all residents except those returning home from evacuations.
Parish officials on Saturday downgraded the mandatory evacuation ordered Friday evening for the east bank of the parish and all communities on the west bank with no federal levee protection. Officials, instead, called for a voluntary evacuation that will begin at noon.
The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office began increased patrols throughout the parish and asked residents to call 911 if they see any suspicious activity or individuals.
Plaquemines residents in need help evacuating should call the Plaquemines Emergency Operations Center at 504.297.5670, officials said. The Belle Chasse Auditorium, 8398 Louisiana 23, opened Friday. Residents are asked to bring their own provisions, including food, to the shelter.
