The state of the nation's transportation infrastructure is adversely affecting the economy, according to the Los Angeles Times. The newspaper says escalating costs for car repairs

and fuel and longer commutes are how Americans pay for the poor condition of the country's roads and bridges.

The article notes that 40 percent of the nation's roads are congested; a quarters of its bridges are deficient; and highway spending is around $90 billion.
