LOS ANGELES (AP) - A judge says former NFL All-Pro safety Darren Sharper cannot be held without bail indefinitely in a sex assault case in Los Angeles, but she gave Louisiana prosecutors more time to indict him before allowing his release in California.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Renee Korn issued the ruling Friday after hearing arguments from Sharper's attorneys that the athlete should be released on bail.
Sharper has not been charged in New Orleans but faces charges in Los Angeles of drugging and raping two women.
NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The Saints' roster purging just added another veteran.
The NFL Network is reporting that running back Darren Sproles will also be cut. The move would save the Saints $3.5 million.
Earlier today, the Saints released wide-receiver Lance Moore after nine seasons.
Sproles had 71 catches for 604 yards and two touchdowns this season, but was not nearly the threat in the return on running game as in years past.

The USDA on Friday said tainted beef from the Rancho Feeding Corporation, a California-based company, may have reached 30 states, including Louisiana.
THIBODAUX, LA (WVUE) - Police arrested a wanted man known as "Killa" for his connection to a recent stint of violent crime.
Davonte Miller, also known as "Killa," is the latest suspect arrested as part of the Thibodaux Police Department's effort to crack down on illegal weapons in the area, according to Chief of Police Scott Silverii.
Officers spotted Miller in the 600 block of Government Circle and after a brief pursuit arrested him. Police say Miller had a gun in his waistband at the time.
RESERVE, LA (WVUE) - Dozens of deputies searched the swamps of St. John Parish Friday looking for a couple from Reserve.
Lake Charles' Bob Jones has resigned from the Louisiana Gaming Control Board.
The 74-year-old Jones said he made the move a couple of weeks ago because a family member has married someone in the gaming industry.
NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Friday morning Saints wide receiver Lance Moore tweeted, "Thank you for an amazing nine years. Who Dat Nation, the best on Earth!!!!"
ESPN NFL analyst Adam Schefter tweeted out yesterday the Saints were shopping the wide receiver. Again, it's unclear if Moore is still on the team.

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - A magistrate judge Friday set bond at $400,000 for Erik Nunez, an acquaintance of former Saints player Darren Sharper. Nunez is accused of raping two women in New Orleans last year along with Sharper.
State prosecutors say Erik Nunez attempted to contact both of the alleged victims. They initially requested a $ 1million dollar bond.
Nunez's attorney said there is no evidence that his client raped anyone and asked the court to set bond at $50,000.
