Shreveport police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting.
According to SPD CPL. Marcus Hines, it all started around 7:48 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of Americana St., when police got a call from the Shreveport Fire Department requesting assistance with a man who was exhibiting "an altered level of consciousness."
At some point during the incident, Hines says the man armed himself with a kitchen knife and became combative.
When officers arrived on the scene, the man reportedly approached officers and fire department personnel with the knife. Hines says the man was shot.
He was taken to University Hospital Shreveport where he was pronounced dead.
Hines says one shot was fired. No one else was injured. The man's name has not been released.
Hines says the incident began as an EMS call, prompted by a call from a woman inside the home reporting that the man was having difficulty breathing.
The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with departmental policy.
