HOUSTON -- Even while working to continue building continuitywith his new teammates, Houston Rockets All-Star center Dwight Howard has takensome time to notice the upgrades the New Orleans Pelicans have made to theirroster.
Speaking to reporters following the Rockets'Saturday morning shoot-around session in advance of tonight's preseason opener,Howard said he was really impressed with the talent in the Pelicans backcourt.
This offseason, the Pelicans added All-Starpoint guard Jrue Holiday, who is expected to be an upgrade over former pointguard Greivis Vasquez, who was traded to Sacramento as part of the sign-and-tradedeal that landed the Pelicans former NBA Rookie of the Year Tyreke Evans.
Holiday, Evans and the sharp-shooting AnthonyMorrow, who also was brought in this offseason, will add to a backcourt thealready featured Eric Gordon and Austin Rivers.
"The guards they brought in, that's toughright there," Howard said. "You got Jrue Holiday, you got Eric Gordon. I don'tknow what happened to Vasquez, I really liked him a lot. He did a lot of goodthings last season. He was one of those guys who really put pressure on the otherguys to play better.
"Theyhave little Rivers. They have a lot of guards. It's going to be a goodchallenge for us. ... I think they are going to be all right. Once Tyreke gets itgoing they are going to be pretty good. They are going to be a special squad."
