Worth noting: The Bulldogs end the regular season in the same place they spent nearly its entirety: perched above the Baton Rouge rankings. Lutcher has won 10 straight games, already surpassing a previous nine-game run, but Coach Davey Clement and his veteran group have long held that their season would be judged on what happens next.

D.J. Fluker (76) started all 12 games at right tackle, helping open holes for Heisman Trophy-finalist running back Trent Richardson and protecting quarterback A.J. McCarron (10), who was sacked just 15 times, second best in the SEC behind LSU's 14. (Dave Martin/The Associated Press)
Here's a look at one of the top candidates the New Orleans Saints may select with the 15th pick in the NFL draft Thursday night:
Tackle D.J. Fluker, Alabama, 6-4, 339
There was a reason the Crimson Tide has had one of the most powerful rushing attacks in the country the past few years and that is because of offensive linemen like Fluker. He is massive and tenacious and about as effective as they come. Fluker started 35 games at right tackle for Alabama and missed just 11 assignments in 729 snaps. He did not participate at the Senior Bowl, which disappointed some but he

Brother Martin closes the regular season ranked No. 1 in the New Orleans area large schools rankings. - (Brett Duke, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune)
The final New Orleans Metro area baseball rankings for large schools end much like they started with Brother Martin, Hahnville, Destrehan and Jesuit holding down the top four spots.
The top-ranked Crusaders opened the regular season on a 10-game winning streak and ended it in even more impressive fashion by winning their final 14 games.
The small schools rankings were a bit more disheveled with Curtis and Northlake Christian supplanting preseason No. 1 St. Charles Catholic in the two two runs. Curtis and Northlake opened the season ranked No. 2 and 4 respectively with Riverside then ranked No. 3.
The tiebreaker in choosing between Curtis and Northlake for No. 1 was

Today: Al Farouq Aminu
On the final day of the regular season, New Orleans Hornets forward Al Farouq Aminu didn’t squander an opportunity to make a lasting impression.
Against the Dallas Mavericks last week, Aminu grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds and scored 16 points. Aminu had 17 rebounds by halftime, two more than the entire Mavericks team achieved. But the Hornets lost 99-87 to close the season at 27-55.
If he had played that way the entire season, there probably wouldn’t be uncertainty like it is now whether the Pelicans will extend him an offer this summer to retain him as an unrestricted free agent. The Hornets declined last October to pick up the fourth-year option on Aminu’s contract

Softball's championship weekend begins Friday in Sulphur. - (File, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune)
Sulphur -- St. Charles Catholic Coach Ty Monica likes this time of year and for good reason.
He’s set to make a special three-hour trek with his softball team for the seventh straight season.
“The experience you get in Sulphur is unlike any other,” he said. “All the games going on at the same time. It’s awesome.”
The other area teams still lucky to be playing -- and there are many -- agree.
Class 5A top-seeded Hahnville joins Sulphur regulars Belle Chasse ( 4A ), Curtis ( 2A ) , Riverside (2A) and Hannan ( 1A ) at Frasch Park for the LHSAA state tournament. Class 5A No. 9 seed Mount Carmel is back in Sulphur for the first time since 2010.
...Phil Jackson continues to consider his next move, and it may extend beyond finding a coaching gig.
Could a front-office job be in his future?
"I've had some talks with people, and there are some interesting situations that are presenting themselves, but I really haven't made up my mind yet what I'm going to do," Jackson told the San Francisco Chronicle. "None of it involves coaching. ... There are three or four teams that have been interested."
He elaborated that he has interest in having influence in hiring a coaching staff and creating a culture.
"It goes all the way down to -- not down to, but includes -- trainers and the people who are doing the hands-on work with players, that have to be really embedded with how you put a team together," Jackson told the paper. "The support group is important; guys who get an opportunity to hear
