HOOVER, Ala. -- Second-ranked LSU defeated top-ranked Vanderbilt, 5-4, in 11 innings Sunday to claim the 10th Southeastern Conference Tournament title in school history at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

The Tigers now move on to the NCAA Tournament and the Baton Rouge Regional beginning May 31st.

In the top of the 11th inning, right fielder Jared Foster stole second base after being hit by a pitch. Pinch hitter Chris Sciambra then stepped up to the plate and delivered a game-winning single into centerfield, scoring Foster from second.

BATON ROUGE -- On the heels of their Southeastern tournament championship Sunday, the LSU Tigers are seeded fourth in the NCAA tournament and will host a regional at Alex Box Stadium.

Despite beating Vanderbilt in the title game 5-4 in 11 innings, the Tigers are seeded below the Commodores. North Carolina earned the top seed, with Vanderbilt second and Oregon third.

LSU will host Jackson State, Sam Houston State, UL-Lafayette at the Baton Rouge Regional.

LSU dominated the all-Southeastern Conference coaches’ first team, landing five spots on the list, while also seeing two of its players named pitcher of the year and rookie of the year.

Vanderbilt, the regular season league champion, had the SEC Player of the Year and the Coach of the Year. LSU beat Vanderbilt 5-4 in extra innings Sunday to earn the SEC tournament championship.

Aaron Nola earned the pitcher of the year honor after going 10-0 with a 1.94 ERA while Alex Bregman was the rookie of the year.

BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU's pitching rotation is set for the NCAA Regional.

Northshore High School's Ryan Eades will pitch game one for LSU, Friday afternoon at 2pm against Jackson State. Sophomore Aaron Nola will then pitch game two Saturday. Sophomore lefty Cody Glenn will be LSU's starter in game three, assuming they win at least one of the first two games.

The choice of Eades in game one is not a surprise.

Nola has pitched four complete games, including two shutouts, and has given up just 22 earned runs while striking out 105 batters in 102 innings pitched.

Tulane falls in CUSA championship opener

HOUSTON – After establishing an early lead, the Tulane Green Wave baseball squad couldn’t quite hold off the Southern Miss Golden Eagles during their first game of the Conference USA Championship, dropping the tilt 10-7 at Reckling Park in Houston.

Tulane (28-28) went up 6-2 in the top of the fifth, running Southern Miss’ (29-25) stellar starting pitcher Andrew Pierce off the mound in just 4.2 innings. But Southern Miss put a five-spot on the board in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead before Tulane tied things up in the sixth at seven runs each.

LSU pitcher Aaron Nola is one step closer to being recognized nationally like he has in the region that encompasses the Southeastern Conference.

The sophomore was named Thursday to a 22-member watch list for the National Pitcher of the Year award.

In 13 starts this season, Nola is 10-0 with a 1.99 ERA. He has 97 strikeouts and just 13 walks in 95 innings. He’s second in the SEC in wins, third in strikeouts and fourth in opponent batting average at .192.

He has pitched four straight complete games and recorded two shutouts this season.

Arkansas beats LSU in SEC Tournament

HOOVER, Ala. – Second-ranked LSU (49-9) fell to No. 12 Arkansas (37-19) by a score of 4-1 in the SEC Tournament winner’s bracket game Thursday night at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

The Tigers will face Alabama (34-25) in an elimination game Friday at 3 p.m. in a game televised by Cox Sports Television and Comcast Sports Southeast. The game can be heard on the LSU Sports Radio Network, and live video is available at ESPN3.com.

LSU stages 9th-inning comeback, beats Bama, 3-2

HOOVER, Ala. -- Second-ranked LSU used ninth-inning magic to defeat Alabama, 3-2, in an SEC Tournament elimination game Friday at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

Trailing 2-1 with two outs in the top of the ninth, first baseman Tyler Moore launched a 3-2 pitch into the right-center field gap, scoring pinch runner Jared Foster and evening the game at 2-2.

Catcher Ty Ross followed with the game-winning single to left, scoring Moore from second and putting the Tigers ahead 3-2.

HOOVER, Ala. – LSU pitchers Cody Glenn, Nick Rumbelow and Chris Cotton blanked Alabama on six hits Wednesday as the second-ranked Tigers won their opening game in the 2013 SEC Baseball Tournament by a score of 3-0 at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. 

LSU improved to 49-8 on the year, while Alabama dropped to 33-25. The Tigers will face No. 15 Arkansas Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in a winners’ bracket game, and Alabama meets Ole Miss at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in an elimination game. 

Sophomore right-hander Aaron Nola will start Thursday’s game for the Tigers, while the Razorbacks are expected to counter with junior right-hander Ryne Stanek.
