Summary: New Orleans gets Marcus McKie, Brett Farve gets a poem, bobby Hebert gets a birthday and the Saints get another AFC opponent, the Houston Texans.
The New Orleans Saints host the Houston Texans in an exhibition game this evening at the Louisiana Superdome.
The Saints swapped out fullbacks on Friday, adding veteran Jason McKie and waiving Marcus Mailei, who is injured. McKie spent seven seasons with the Bears, starting 11 games in 2009, but when he had no relevance in Mike Martz's offense, his time in Chicago ended. Goodbye poem for Brett Favre:
I've sacrificed my body to the gridiron gods,
But now also, I'm tired of the grind,
This will definitely be my final farewell,.
Unless of course, I change my mind.
Saints Hall of Famer Bobby Hebert turned 50 on Thursday and to show his appreciation he still gets from Saints fans support, he answered five questions submitted to the Saints official Facebook page.
Q: What was your favorite play to call at quarterback?
A: Whenever you get blitzed, to call a bump-and-run fade route. The advantages in your favor on that. This goes back to my days at Northwestern State when I was throwing to Mark Duper. I knew when they were going to blitz and bump-and-run him, there was no way they were going to stay with him. I always thought it was the closest play to being a guaranteed success. It was a play I always felt comfortable with.
Q: If you could have a super human power, what would it be?
A: Probably to be able to turn myself invisible anytime I wanted. I think that would be pretty cool.
Q:During you playing career, what was your favorite offseason activity besides spending time with your family?
A:Scuba diving. Initially, how I got interested in it was the "The Adventures of Johnny Quest" cartoons. Then the James Bond movie "Thunderball" that got me even more interested, I would go spear fishing in high school with friends who weren't divers. That was a non-competitive sport that I really enjoyed.
Q: If you can't pick the Saints, who do you think has the best chance to win the Super Bowl this year?
A: If I can't pick the Saints, I think the Cowboys are the most talented. They might be the most under-achieving team I have seen. I thought last year they beat us at the line of scrimmage on offense and defense, I also like Rex Ryan and the Jets a lot. If it can't be the Saints, I would like to see the Jets as well. I like those fiery type of coaches.
Q: Besides the nickname "Cajun Cannon" what is your favorite for yourself?
A: Probably Bobby J. I know if somebody calls me Bobby J they are from my hometown. I am a junior in my family. My son at LSU, T-Bob, is actually the third. When I was younger, my mom would yell "Bobby!" and my dad and I would both look in her direction. So she started calling me "Bobby J. "It can for my middle name initial Joseph or for being a junior. Growing up, some people actually thought that my real name was Bobby J. Joseph Hebert. I remember playing the Washington Redskins at RFK Stadium, I was walking out the tunnel and heard somebody yell "Hey Bobby J." so I knew it had to be someone I grew up with and sure enough it was an old classmate of mine who lived in DC named Cornell Martin.
