New Orleans VooDoo WR Donovan Morgan awarded Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week

Written by  |  Monday, 20 May 2013 11:54  |  Published in Louisiana Sports News

Wide receiver Donovan Morgan was a spark in the New Orleans VooDoo's seventh straight loss Saturday. His record-tying performance earned him Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week honors Tuesday, the Arena Football League announced.

Morgan tied the single-game VooDoo record for receiving touchdowns with five in a 65-54 loss to the Spokane Shock that dropped its record to 1-7. Morgan caught 13 passes in the game for 255 yards, one yard shy of the single-game franchise record.

He missed two games earlier in the season with an adductor strain and said last week he was "about 85 percent heading into Spokane."

His touchdown receptions were all from quarterback Kurt Rocco, in his first game back since suffering a knee injury April 19 against Pittsburgh. Morgan's catches spanned 34, 39, 9, 47 and 33 yards in his first multi-touchdown game since April 12.

Morgan and the VooDoo return home Saturday to face the Chicago Rush at 8 p.m. in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
