The TODAY family remembers Jim Lovell, 58, who was among those killed when a commuter train derailed in New York City. Lovell was on his way to work to do a setup for the Rockefeller Christmas tree lighting special when the accident occurred.
The job that had Jim Lovell on the early train to Manhattan was to bring the quintessential postcard scene of New York at the holidays — the lighting of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree — to the rest of the country.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Raising taxes on New York City's highest earners to pay for early education programs, a signature proposal of Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio, has the backing of more than six in 10 New York state voters, according to a poll released on Wednesday.
De Blasio, a liberal Democrat who takes office in January, is expected to face strong opposition to the plan from the politically divided state legislature and Governor Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat who is up for re-election next year and has committed to keeping tax rates in check.

LSU wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was not among the three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award for the best receiver in the nation. The finalists are Texas A&M's Mike Evans, Oregon State's Brandin Cooks and Clemson's Sammy Watkins.
Beckham, who has caught 56 passes for 1,101 yards and eight touchdowns, was one of 10 finalists for the award presented by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club. The winner will be announced Dec. 12.**************
People probably wonder why Texas A&M may end up in a BCS bowl if the Aggies finish 10-2. Some of those same people might be puzzled why Texas A&M at LSU is the CBS Game of the Week on Saturday, a matchup that has little meaning in the SEC's Western Division race.
The answer to both questions: A&M sophomore quarterback Johnny Manziel, who won the Heisman Trophy last season as a redshirt freshman.
In 35 years of covering the SEC, he's the best player in the league I've ever seen.
