Compo battle rages over BP oil spill

Four years after the Deepwater Horizon spill, oil is still washing up on the long sandy beaches of Grand Isle, Louisiana, and some islanders are fed up with hearing from BP that the crisis is over.

Jules Melancon, the last remaining oyster fisherman on an island dotted with colourful houses on stilts, says he has not found a single oyster alive in his leases in the area since the leak and relies on an onshore oyster nursery to make a living.

Atlanta franchise to join MLS in 2017

Atlanta will be the newest league member of Major League Soccer in the United States.

The announcement follows six years of talks between MLS and the new team's owner, Arthur Black, who also owns the NFL's Atlanta Falcons.

Atlanta will join the league for the 2017 season and be its 22nd team.

A Miami franchise headed by former Manchester United, LA Galaxy and England midfielder David Beckham hopes to join in the same year.

Phelps to come out of retirement

Swimmer Michael Phelps, the most successful Olympian in history, is set to end his retirement.

He's just going to test the waters a little bit and see how it goes

The 28-year-old American, who has won 22 Olympic medals, is expected to compete at a meet in Arizona at the end of April.

"He's just going to test the waters a little bit and see how it goes," said long-time coach Bob Bowman.

American Bubba Watson won a second Masters title in three years with a three-shot victory at Augusta.

The 35-year-old carded a three-under 69 in the final round to finish on eight under for the tournament, with compatriot Jordan Spieth and Sweden's Jonas Blixt tied for second position.

Lewis Hamilton beat Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg in a thrillingly close battle at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

With the pair in a league of their own, the battle became a 10-lap sprint after a late safety car period wiped out Hamilton's 10-second advantage.

On the faster soft tyre, Rosberg had the advantage, but Hamilton held him off to the end with aggressive defence.

Nico Rosberg won a battle with Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton for pole position at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

The Mercedes were in a league of their own as Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo took third 0.866 seconds behind Hamilton.

The Briton lost his chance to take pole from Rosberg when he made a mistake at Turn One on his final qualifying lap.

Williams' Valtteri Bottas was fourth ahead of Force India's Sergio Perez, the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen and McLaren's Jenson Button.

Ferguson takes Harvard teaching role

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has taken a "long-term teaching position" at Harvard.

The 72-year-old, who retired at the end of last season after more than 26 years at Old Trafford, will lecture as part of a programme called "The Business of Entertainment, Media and Sports".

He gave a lecture on his management style at the university in 2012.

Ferguson said: "I'm delighted to have the opportunity and privilege to contribute.

Beckham unveils MLS stadium plans

Former England captain David Beckham has announced plans to base his Major League Soccer team in a 25,000-seat stadium on Miami's waterfront.

The 38-year-old retired as a player last May but earlier this year announced his intention to start a MLS franchise in the American city.

There'll be certain things that come up, but we're ready to handle everything that'll be thrown at us

"When people think of Miami, they immediately think about being near or on the water," said Beckham.
